Fibromyalgia

Misunderstood and Mistreated by the Conventional Aystem? Try Natural Medicines!
According to the Center for Disease Control, over 14 million people suffer from a disorder known as chronic fatigue immune deficiency syndrome. They classify Fibromyalgia as part of this disorder. Some authorities claim that Fibromyalgia is related to Rheumatoid Arthritis. Others say it is a viral disorder. Regardless of how you view it, the conventional system is failing miserably with the treatment, especially with the control of pain.
The word fibro (connective tissue) and myalgia (muscular pain) means muscular connective tissue pain. In order to be classified with this disorder, a person experiences pain in the muscles, tendons, and joints and has discomfort in at least 11 of the 18 “tender spots” of the body. They also complain of weakness or exhaustion. It is a systemic imbalance that affects many aspects of a person’s life and each person’s experience of the disorder is unique to that person. Since Homeopathy and natural Medicine deals specifically on the unique symptoms of individuals and treats the person instead of the disease symptoms, the results of the therapies are much more effective than the modern medical treatment of this disorder.

Two Systems of Medicine - Conventional vs. Homeopathic
The conventional modern medical treatment uses pain killing drugs and most recently… anticancer drugs to treat this disorder. When the person does not respond to pain medication, the sufferers are given psychological drugs. Frustrated and still in discomfort, the sufferers are turned over to self help support groups where they can at least get emotional support from each other. Unfortunately, until very recently, they were told it must be a psychosomatic.

It is no wonder that thousands of people, 80% of whom are women, have turned to alternative medical systems in an attempt to control the pain and to increase their energy. Homeopathy is a system of medicine that treats each person as an individual. Their past health history, genetic inheritances, etiology, and symptoms are taken into consideration before a prescription is designed. As the body begins to heal, the inflammatory process slows and new tissue is produced. The use of Herbs must be implemented as well as vitamins and diet to complete the therapy. The individual is followed month after month and the dosages and remedies are changed according to the level of progress. Most people feel up to 40% better within the first four weeks of the treatment if the Homeopathic Practitioner is skilled in case taking and uses medicinal strength herbs and remedies. Most over the counter herbs are, unfortunately, too weak to help with the level of discomfort. The positive side is that instead of masking the pain such as a pharmaceutical pain reliever, you actually stimulate the body to heal itself and become more balanced.

In my practice, I’ve noticed different patterns when treating this disorder. One person may have had the flare up of this condition after getting a flu, another after an emotional trauma, and yet another person after a physical injury. I have noticed a hormonal component in at least half of the women and had to use herbs to balance their hormones as well. Although different homeopathics are designed according to the individuals needs, most of the people have had some success adding in the following to their daily regimen. Below is a list of supportive therapies we use at the office of Dr. Cindee Gardner. If you are self treating, it is a good place to start.

1 - Herbs:
Fibromyalgia Herb Combo - Made from organic, fresh GMO Free extracts from the following whole herbs: Devils Claw, Chaparral, Turmeric, Black Cohosh, Yucca, Burdock, Feverfew, and Jamaican Dogwood.
Several studies including double blind and placebo controlled tests have confirmed the efficacy of Devils Claw in the relief of rheumatic and arthritic conditions. Turmeric is a great anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory. Chaparral is known as an anti-inflammatory of the intestinal tissue, calms nerve endings, and aids in eliminating inflammation of the intestinal tract.
Black Cohosh is a powerful relaxant which is also useful in the treatment of rheumatic pains, osteo-arthritis, muscular and neurological pain, and rheumatoid neuralgia. Its greatest reputation is a female reproductive hormone balancer and reliever of menstrual neuralgia and menstrual cramps. Yucca is a popular herb for joint inflammation and some forms of arthritis pain. Burdock helps the body detoxify uric acid crystals from the muscles and joints. Jamaican Dogwood helps with nervous tension and helps promote a restful sleep. This combination is safe and effective and has no known contraindications when used with other therapies. Follow the directions on the bottle.
Herbal Aspirin: If you need pain relief, this is a better choice than the over the counter drugs because there is no side effects at all.

2 - Vitamin Therapy:
Add the following to your daily program…
Magnesium Asp. and Calcium Elixir. This combination helps to maintain the Calcium-magnesium balance in the system without leaving inorganic deposits. Connective Tissue throughout the body is dependent on the proper ratio of these nutrients. Never take a calcium supplement that is not organic or made from “chalk” type constituents.
Stress B Complex - Most people with this disorder are deficient in B vitamins. Use “Stress B” for one month, then switch to a balanced form of Vitamin B once symptoms are under control.
CoQ10 - There are many brands available, make sure it says pharmaceutical grade on the label.

3 - Diet Aids:
Super Aloe Vera Juice - We recommend using a cold pressed and processed 10,000 MPS drinkable aloe to detoxify the system and aid in digestive processes. Super Aloe Vera Juice was once only available through Physicians’ offices but now available in better health food stores as well. This aloe juice has an abundance of the naturally occurring enzymes that clean up existing fibrosis conditions by working though the gastrointestinal tract and the blood stream. It also acts as a detoxifier to carry away dead and dying cells and rebuilds stronger connective tissue. Super Aloe Vera Juice also has powerful anti-viral, fungal and bacterial properties and is used as a crucial tool for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and post Viral disorders. This product is definitely a must for any arthritis sufferers as it detoxifies the impurities that gather on the joints as well as the fibrous tissue and breaks down crystal formations.

Also drink plenty of distilled water between meals. Avoid or cut back on coffee, tea, sodas, and processed fats and sugars. Increase raw fruits and vegetables in the diet. Add in vegetable juices like fresh squeezed carrot.
Replace your daily vitamins made from inorganic materials with a whole food herbal formula such as “Herbal Vitamins” which can be absorbed completely without leaving toxic residue in the tissues. Look for foods on the label, not chemical names.

4 - Homeopathic Formulas and Remedies for temporary flare ups and pain relief:
Zeel Cream and tablets, Rhus Tox, Ruta Grav., Bryonia, Arnica, Mag Phos are a few good helpers that can make the day go much easier by eliminating swelling and inflammations. Consult a Homeopathic Basic Book for the indications of each of the remedies, then choose one that fits your individual symptoms.

5 - Gentle massage…
with Cold Pressed Castor Oil with added Arnica. Ask your therapist to use this combination, then wrap you in kitchen plastic wrap or a used cleaners bag, then cover you with a heated blanket or hot water bottle or heating pad on the sore spots. You can also make a castor oil pack yourself and administer for one hour, three days in a row for faster healing and improved circulation. Please call for details.
